Perspective

Yin

A small building sunk into the ground

Education + Architecture

The brief, as it is set out on the board, asked for a single-function building of no more than 200 square metres and three storeys, with some of the elements water, stone and bamboo built in. Yin (隐, hidden) is sunk into its square plot so that, from anywhere but the south-west corner, only its top floor shows above the grass and the bamboo.

The first two boards are drawn and coloured by hand: the site, the analyses, the way the form was found, the plans, sections and a section perspective. The third is digital and is about light, with a roof that lets in soft light and no direct sun, and the details of the walls, stairs and screens. Undergraduate studio work.
